Don’t wait for a “Sign” to choose a local sign company.
Works of art, weather it be the Mona Lisa or a sign for a local business, are not created with generic, “one-size-fits-all” material or ideas.

Customization is key when creating a sign that will both stand out and communicate effectively. In most cases, a sign or image is the first (and sometimes only!) impression that customers will use to judge weather a business or institution is what they are looking for, so it’s not something to consider lightly!

This is why the first place someone should look when they need a sign for their business or institution is locally. The work of creating a good sign is often back-and-forth, with many changes and considerations. Having a local business that has the experience and expertise to work with customers and create a professional product is extremely important.

There are a number of factors to consider when choosing a local sign business.

1. Graphic Design.
What’s it going to look like? Flowing and artistic? Clear and straightforward? It’s often said that a picture is worth a 1000 words. The graphic design of a sign says about 1000 words about who the business is and what they do. Being able to work with a good graphic designer is very important.

2. LG format printing.
LG stands for “large graphics”. A household printer can make a very nice printout with detail and vibrant colors, but that 8.5×11″ sheet of paper won’t be visible from 200 ft. away! This is where LG printing comes in. Vibrant colors, clear text, and SIZE are all important factors to look for in a good LG printing company.

3. Permitting and Regulations.
It’s an often overlooked area of sign creation but one of the most important! Things like size restrictions, regulations about the installation, content, LED requirements, and ADA compliance are all factors to consider.

4. Construction/Installation.
Once a sign has been designed, it has to be built, and then installed! It’s important to choose a material that can stand up to the local weather (a faded/broken sign is often seen as a sign of the business itself). After that, there is the matter of installation to consider. There are many different types of signs and ways to mount them including 3D stud mounted signs, pole signs, monument style signs, raceway mounted signs, etc. As with many things in life, it’s best to do this job right the FIRST time. Durability is key.

5. Repair.
Ok, despite best efforts and best of intentions, signs are going to need repair over time. LED lights go out, colors dull, things need to be replaced sometimes! Consulting with a professional is often a good first step.

I hope the reader feels a little more confident in the things to look for when choosing a local sign company. Thanks!
